Do vehicles need a Digital Product Passport?
Do vehicles need a Digital Product Passport?
Yes, and later than anything else in the estate. From 1 September 2032 each vehicle within Article 13 of Regulation (EU) 2026/1738 must have a Digital Circularity Vehicle Passport. The core scope is ordinary M1 passenger cars and N1 light commercial vehicles, subject to the Regulation's exclusions. Heavy M2, M3, N2, N3 and O vehicles, L-category vehicles and special-purpose vehicles are expressly outside Article 13.
The date is far enough out that the useful question is not when, it is what. A vehicle is the hardest identity problem here. Long life, several owners, a repair history that is commercially valuable, a parts tree where individual components carry their own obligations, and a traction battery that already has an adopted passport of its own from 18 February 2027.
Those two are separate instruments with separate scopes. A vehicle in scope for one is not automatically in scope for the other, and the battery passport does not wait for 2032.
One page here today. It covers the scope test, the date and what the Regulation does and does not already fix, and it is the page that grows as the implementing detail lands.
