A GS1 Digital Link is a web address that carries a product identifier in a structured path, so one QR code can lead a scanner to a passport, a manual or a retailer page rather than to a number a machine has to look up separately. This tool builds the address and the code. It does not register anything, and a link only resolves once something is actually serving that address.

A QR code holds an address. What a visitor gets when they scan it depends on what is serving that address, which is a separate decision and the one that decides whether the scan is worth anything.

A code printed on a product is there for as long as the product is, which is longer than most domains and most software. Deciding what happens when the address stops resolving is part of choosing it.
