Digital Product Passport software for Shopify

Start with the catalogue you already have. ActivateDigital reads Shopify product and variant data as evidence, resolves what it legitimately can, and shows you which facts still need proof.

Direct answer

ActivateDigital can use Shopify product and variant data as the starting point for a Digital Product Passport. The catalogue is read as evidence rather than as settled truth. Fields, documents and other sources are matched to the product, two sources that disagree are both kept, and a value is calculated or derived only where a governed method allows it. Anything that cannot be established stays unresolved rather than filled in.

What a Shopify catalogue already answers

Shopify carries more of a passport than most merchants expect, and it is worth knowing which fields those are before anyone starts typing into a form.

BarcodeA variant barcode is a candidate identifier. It is read as one, checked, and not assumed to be a GTIN because it sits in that box.
SKUYour own product code. Useful for matching your records to each other, and never treated as a trade identifier.
VendorThe manufacturer, wholesaler or other vendor name stored against the product. It may correspond to a brand. ActivateDigital does not assume that it does, and resolves it as a name.
Commodity codeShopify holds a harmonised system code on the inventory item. Many catalogues have it. Most merchants have forgotten it is there.
Country of originAlso on the inventory item. A useful declaration, and a declaration is what it stays until something supports it.
WeightA value with its unit beside it, which is what makes a Shopify weight usable without a further question.
MetafieldsWhere composition, care and supplier detail usually live once a store has grown past the default fields.

A catalogue field is an observation, not proof

Every one of those fields was typed by somebody. That does not make it wrong. It makes it evidence of a particular kind, with a source and a date, and it is kept that way rather than promoted to fact on arrival.

The deeper analysis of what a Shopify catalogue can and cannot settle, in Shopify's own documentation, is in Knowledge.

Digital Product Passports from a Shopify catalogue

What ActivateDigital tries before it asks you

The point of starting from the catalogue is that you should not be asked for anything the evidence already answers.

When two sources disagree

A store label saying eighty per cent wool and a supplier declaration saying seventy-eight per cent recycled wool is the normal case, not the exception. Neither is silently overwritten. Both are kept against the product and the value carries a resolution state that says they conflict.

What stays unresolved

Some facts are not in your catalogue, not in your documents and not derivable from either. Those stay visibly unresolved. An unsupported value that looks settled is worse than a gap you can see and close.

Which of your existing product data a passport can use

One record, several destinations

What comes out is one governed product record with the basis for each value attached. A passport and its GS1 Digital Link are one thing that record can produce. Retailer and marketplace packs are another. The record is also readable over the API with a key from your own account.

How you start today

The Shopify connector is implemented, and access to it is arranged account by account. There is no public App Store installation today, and it has not yet run against a live merchant store. You can also start from a Shopify export.

Textiles and batteries are the categories open today. Other categories are in build and the Workspace says which.

Where the underlying work is written down

Start with one product

One product, the data you already hold, and an honest account of what is still missing from it.
